Made in Austria by the world's most renowned wineglass maker, Riedel Crystal, founded in 1756, this classic decanter is blown from 24 percent lead crystal. It is magnum size (1-1/2 liters), perfect for one or two bottles of red wine. While the most common use of a decanter is to prevent sediment in an aged red wine from spoiling the wine's clarity and brilliance, some authorities also recommend decanting young red wines to give them the opportunity to bloom. In either case, this spectacular decanter brings a breathtaking elegance to the dinner table. Standing 9-1/2 inches high on a 9-1/2-inch-diameter base, its proportions are as perfect as the crystal. Riedel crystal is used by fine restaurants all over the world and thus must stand up to frequent trips through a dishwasher. I purchased the Riedel Magnum Decanter on Amazon.com, "Sold by Witbecks and Fulfilled by Amazon" and it just arrived. Upon opening the box it was impressive looking, which is what I wanted, but I was a bit surprised how little protective packaging there was so I looked at it closely for damage. No damage but I did find two visible imperfections that look like bubbles on the surface. They are substantial enough that they cause a scratching noise when you run your fingernail across them. Very disappointing. Not sure if I'm going to go through the hassle of returning it or just be disappointed every time I use it.

We use it all the time. It is crystal but feels super sturdy. Other crystal decanters always feel fragile and I always end up breaking them. We've had this since November and have not had any problems. Definitely a great purchase.

'Perfect' decanter for young wines but the magnum is no use. Take the regular 'Ultra', for a bit less money and the same effectiveness (if not better).It does not need any accessory to pour the wine as the shape of the decanter takes care of everything. The wine flows perfectly automatically to the botton across all parts inside.You will see what I mean after the first time you use it :-)
