I think this carafe is beautiful, but it is unbalanced when it is empty. If you buy it, be sure to keep it in the box when not in use. It was my Christmas gift to my husband, and the very first thing that happened when he opened it and put it on the table was that it fell forward and the lip chipped. So disappointing. We can still use it, but, you know, you hate to see the chip every time. Oh well. Keeps us humble, I guess.

This is packaged very poorly. The very sharp, pointed lip is right up against the side of the box, with no styrofoam or anything to protect it. Chipped and not useable. And for this price range, are you really going to negotiate with the shipper for compensation? Not likely. Choose another decanter, with an eye towards how it may be packaged. Good luck, right?
