For more than a century, the Peugeot name has been synonymous with French gourmet cooking. Recently, an opportunity arose for Peugeot to bring its penchant for quality and innovation to a family of wine products. Since then, Peugeot has offered a wide range of corkscrews, specialized decanters, tasting glasses and service accessories to wine aficionados worldwide. Peugeot's stainless steel Bilbo cleaning beads allow you to easily clean wine decanters. Cleaning glass decanters can be challenging because of their unique shapes and fragility. You should not use detergent when cleaning a decanter, as it may leave soap traces that could affect the flavor and aroma of decanted wine. Using cleaning beads is an effective way to remove tannin sediment and limestone traces. To use the Bilbo beads, fill the wine decanter (not included) half full with hot (not boiling) water. To avoid thermal shock, make sure the decanter is warm before adding the hot water. Remove the Bilbo's flask cap and gently pour all beads into the decanter. Replace flask cap and set Bilbo flask aside while you swirl the cleaning beads and water in the wine decanter. Take care not to shake the beads in the decanter, as the steel can break the glass. Once the decanter is clean, take the Bilbo flask and unscrew and remove the flask's base, then pour entire contents of decanter - water and beads - directly into the open end of the Bilbo flask. The flask acts as a funnel and strainer: catching the stainless steel beads and letting the cleaning water drain out. Once water is finished draining, screw the base back onto the flask, turn flask upright, remove the flask cap and run hot water through the beads. The slits and holes are engineered to allow water to rinse over the beads and pass through the flask; also providing ventilation for the beads to dry.

OK, its just a bunch of ball bearings in a plastic container. But as the owner and regular user of many wine decanters of all shapes and sizes, I've spent way too much of my adult life messing with a variety of cleaners, brushes and tricks to try to get the lime scale and residual pigment out of the nooks and crannies at the bottom of the Riedel and ittala and Spiegelau and so forth.Here you have a slick looking, rigid plastic, miniature space capsule thingie -- it looks just like Friendship 7, doesn't it?No, Gus Grissom will not pop out when you drop it in water. You pry off th rubber cap at the top. At the bottom there is a good quantity of highly polished, smooth stainless steel beads. The sides and bottom of the container are vented to allow the free flow of water and air. You pop the top, pour the beads into your decanter, swirl them like crazy with warm water and mild unscented detergent. Then you pop the bottom off the space capsule, dump the beads back into it, and replace the top half again. You can then finish rinsing out your decanter and hang it upside down on a decanter drying stand (I highly recommend the Atelier du Vin "On/Off" model, which you can collapse into two flat pieces and slip back into a drawer when done). You put the "Bilbo" full of metal beads under lots of cool running water, which flows out of the vents along the sides and bottom of your miniature unmanned spacecraft. Then you stick the stopper back in the Bilbo's neck, shake it around to get all the water out and leave it to dry completely.And that's it. The beads are clean, and they will air dry quickly. Your decanter is clean, and it will air dry and sparkle with just a bit of action on the outside with a linen or microfiber towel. And you can toss out your drawer full of useless bottle cleaning brushes that never worked anyway.And for good measure, the same method works great on hard to clean wine glasses and glass vases as well. Get yourself a Bilbo -- it's eighteen bucks well spent.

This product works great to clean my decanter. Quick and easy. No soap needed. Best of all, the container allows you to pour in the beads and then recollect the beads from the decanter when done, rinse them and dry them... try that with the other guys beads. Definitely recommend this one over all the others!
